Microsoft word has made such an impact on how I and a big majority of people have learned to organize their school, work, and or personal writings. Throughout my school years k-12 (mostly middle through high school) my schools wanted us to use google docs to do all of our assignments. I personally think that MS Word is much easier to use and allows for more creativity when it comes to fonts, colors, and anything else you could think of. While being at FSU I have had the opportunity to get a free membership with MS Word and it is much easier to use in my opinion and this is my preferred way of doing assignments and taking notes.
While the ISTE standards cover students, educators, education leaders, and coaches, today we will focus on educators. I believe the most important standard for educators to have is to be a leader in their classroom. This means that they should share with the class what their vision is and do their very best to put the best foot forwards for their students. Along with this comes advocating for their students to all have equitable access. They should make assignments to where every students can access it and not put any students down because of whatever situation they might be in. And finally, an educator should lead by example. For example, if teachers are wanting students to use new technology, they should apply a link that can give step by step instructions to help or go over it with students in classroom. By being a good leader in the classroom, educators can make a world of difference in some students lives.
In todays world, technology is all around us. There are terms such was digital native that refer to the younger generations as they were born into a world of technology and digital immigrant referring to the older generations and how they have not had technology around all of their lives. Understanding these terms, it is easy to understand that being a digital native can have its up and downs. It is very true that digital natives have very short attention spans but other assumptions such as digital natives don't like to read can be up for debate. I believe it is very different but the love to read is not something that can be phased out. As a college students, Many of my friends love to read and I believe this is just something that some people like, and some people do not like. Technically I an a digital native but I honestly am very bad with technology. I do not understand all the fancy actions on computers and need help setting up a new phone when bought. Some teachers that I have had, have had very strong likes and very strong dislikes for technology. While yes, it can be see with age, I believe that some people are just better learners with technology than others and it does not matter the age. I personally LOVE when teachers give assignments on paper because I do not need to worry about my computer being charged or my wifi working. If I were to have future students, it would honestly be a learning process with them on whatever technology I decided to use and I would make sure everyone was on the same page because I can understand the struggle with learning new technology.
Hi Tori,
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about how teachers should implement technology in their classrooms, by giving students a link or easily accessing the website that they will have to use in order to make it more approachable and easier to use. I think that this will be useful in my future teaching as an elementary school teacher since my students will have a really easy time finding the sites and this makes a lot less confusion. I agree with what you were talking about concerning the digital native because so many people love to use the internet. I believe that I am a digital native, but only to the sites that I go on. I am able to navigate a site that I am familiar with, but I will have some trouble with new websites or things that I am not familiar with.
