Copyright and fair use is a big problem in today's society in the education system. As a teacher I think it would definitely be hard to walk this fine line. Personally, I think if I as a teacher am coming up with my one concepts and own lesson plans and my own thoughts, I would expect my students to be able to do the same thing. I would want my students to use what I provide for them and be able to form there own even deeper thoughts and expand on my thoughts. It is definitely a fine line but I think if there is anything to be learned, I would work with my students and help them to understand how to work the way I would like them too in a professional manner.
Technology is also something has taken over the world. Technology is being implemented into every aspect of our academic lives and it can honestly become distracting. Whenever I have an assignment due and I am going to look at to on my phone or even on my laptop, I always seem to get distracted by a text or a funny video someone sent to me. I have noticed this personally in my own life and I try to write out what I need to do on paper and then do my work on my computer with Do Not Disturb turned on to limit distraction and promote work. In my future classroom I would like to dedicate time to getting online work done because I think this would improve work ethic on assignments.
Generative AI is something I do not use. While this tool can be very useful for some projects, it is also used for very demeaning things as well. I personally do not think I would implement this into my classroom just because I do not use it and I do not like it. I definitely think this would hurt students learning as they would think they could fall back onto this a something to do their work for them.
While working on my newsletter, I did lean a lot of new skills. Like I have stated earlier, technology is nit my strong suit. With this being an assignment I had to figure it out and all with the punches. I honestly am very thankful that I has to learn these new skills and will definitely be turning to canva to help me with other projects in the future.
Hi Torri!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about technology and copyright within the classroom. I wrote a similar stance on my blog post. I think it is important to teach students about these things instead of ignoring them completely and risk the chance of students using AI and other tools as a way to cheat or turn in unoriginal work. I also am not a fan of AI, I find it scary more than anything else and I don't think I would use it in the classroom too much either.
Torri,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your stance on technology and copyright in the classroom, but I'd encourage students to help find websites ot host activites/schoolwork on. Especially when students are older, they know what they prefer in terms of technology in the classroom, and may have a greater insight to what's available than a teacher may. I agree that AI is more of a hinderance in the classroom than an aid.
